Congratulations!
Soon you will have delicious Stropharia mushrooms!
Stropharia a.k.a Wine Caps are Easy to Grow
The wood chips you purchased are enough to inoculate a 100 sq ft bed.
Choose a location that is in part-sun or full shade that won’t be disturbed by animals. It’s great in plant beds, forested pathways and around trees.
Do the following and you’ll have delicious mushrooms in 6 months or so:
Gather a mixture of fresh and well decayed wood chips. You will need enough to cover 100 sq ft 6-12 inches deep. Wood chips should be about 70% fresh and 30% well decayed. Make sure your fresh wood chips contain no, or very little, pine.
At your chosen site lay down cardboard to cover the 100 sq ft area
Cover the cardboard with 3-6 inches of the wood chip mix you gathered
Cover that layer with an evenly distributed layer of spawn from the 6lb bag you purchased. Use it all.
Add a final layer of mixed wood chips
Water it well or do it right before a rain fall
These mushrooms like it cooler.
They tend to fruit in the Spring and Fall in Western North Carolina.
